BALFA TOUJOURS (“Balfa always”) was formed by Christine Balfa, daughter of the legendary Cajun fiddle ambassador Dewey Balfa of the famous Balfa Brothers, after his passing in 1992. With six CDs under their belt and international acceptance, this is a group that celebrates its roots yet has been hailed by preeminent Louisiana culture expert Barry Ancelet as “the future of Cajun Music.” The rest of the band consists of Christine's husband, Dirk Powell, a world class accordion and fiddle player who has recorded with Sting and Jewel; Kevin Wimmer, who played with Dewey and is said to bring a Creole influence to their music; and youngest member Courtney Granger, a gifted Balfa cousin, who recorded his debut CD for Rounder Records five years ago at the age of 15.
